Into the front differential without a pump.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

This could take a while. A long, long, long while...

Thankfully after the initial break-in service/change interval the front diff only requires oil changes every 1000 operating hours. It IS a clutch-type limited slip, so changing is required, not just topping off.

At least you can let gravity help. Refilling the diff on our Jeep required holding the bottle horizontal and squeezing as hard as possible nonstop for ten minutes. By the end of it I think I had a good idea of how menstrual cramps must feel.

Gotta get one of these:

I also find that these work really well to get most of the old fluid out if I don’t feel like pulling the cover:

It could be worse.  It could’ve been winter.

I have one of the later, but I last used it to pump chloride tire ballast... So I' m not gonna run clean gear oil into the diff with it. The former: yes, I wish I had one of those right about now.

That’s happened to me to, I forget that I used it for something else and I have to run out and get another one. It’s just another reason that repairs and maintenance always take longer than I expect!

Oh man.  That’s the perfect analogy.  Yesterday I spent redoing the caulking on a tub.  Turns out the caulking I had in the gun was a bit older, and trying to squeeze that stuff out... yeah.  If I had to do that every day, I’d look like Popeye.
